The steps
- Remove debris and weeds, then rake.
- Sow evenly using a rotary spreader designed for seeds, crossing directions (north-south, east-west).
- Cover with about 1/4 inch of quality potting soil (avoid low-grade mixes).
- Water lightly with a fine-spray watering can to keep the soil moist without saturating it.
For optimal results
- Allow at least 6 inches of topsoil beneath the lawn for best results.
- Germination is optimal when the soil temperature is between 14 and 25°C.
- Use a natural, gentle rooting fertilizer to encourage new root growth.
- Keep the soil moist for at least 3 weeks to promote germination (water 2 to 3 times a day).
